Sunflowers are considered one of the happiest flowers and a sign of positivity, happiness, good luck and hope. Their lovely blooms follow the sun from sunrise to sunset. Celebrate this spectacular flower at the annual Kalbar Sunflower Festival, located in the Scenic Rim.

The advertised tour is a 2-day / 1-night tour ex Gold Coast. There is also a coach departing Toowoomba and meeting the group from the Gold Coast in Kalbar. Please note: Visitor numbers for the Kalbar Sunflower Festival are strictly limited each day. FRI 19 APRIL |D

Day 1  Early this morning depart Gold Coast and travel by charter coach to the scenic rim region. Short stop in Kalbar for comfort / refreshment stop before proceeding to the festival venue

Enjoy Kalbar Sunflower Festival at your leisure.

The festival features:

  • Lots of photo opportunities and over a million sunflowers
  • A sunflower maze to walk through and lost in
  • Photo props for the perfect Instagram shot
  • A sunflower painting class including paint a bag and paint a card options (additional cost – must be pre-booked)
  • Food vendors and trucks
  • Sunflower shop with tote bags, mugs, honey and more
  • Helicopter rides
  • Free live entertainment and more
  • Yoga and Sound Healing (additional cost – must be pre-booked)
  • Mater Foundation Devonshire Tea
  • Pick your own sunflowers to take home $3 per stem (part proceeds to cancer charity)
  • Flower Crown making (additional cost – must be pre-booked)
  • Long lunches under big white marquees at the festival from 11.30-1.30pm each day, Multi-award winning chef Richard Ousby has created a special two course lunch made from local Scenic Rim produce (additional cost $120 per person – must be pre-booked. Please note the long lunch books out very quickly as numbers are strictly limited)

This afternoon depart Kalbar and travel through the scenic rim to Toowoomba, with a stop at a smaller sunflower field in Cambooya for extra opportunities to capture a special photo without the crowds. Delight in their special sunset “golden experience” including light refreshments. Afterward, transfer to your accommodation for tonight.

 Accommodation for one night in a hotel room is at Potters Hotel in Toowoomba (or similar)

You will have a short time to check into your room and freshen up. At 7.15pm, make your way to The George Banks Rooftop bistro, located a short walk from the hotel. Enjoy family-style shared platters (beverages at own expense).

At the conclusion of the evening, make your own way back to the hotel.

SAT 20 APRIL|  BL

Day 2  This morning, enjoy a delicious breakfast at the Picnic Point café

Located in the heart of Picnic Point Park and surrounded by beautifully landscaped  gardens with a scenic backdrop of majestic mountain views

After breakfast, visit the weekly Cobb & Co farmers markets. Take the opportunity to buy direct from farmers and local artisans. There is also an ever changing array of local artisan stalls that sell anything from handmade soaps, beauty products, leather goods, steel work and jewellery. Alternatively, you may choose to walk around the gardens in Queens Park, which are located opposite the markets.

Travel north to Crows Nest, located in the Highland Country Hamlets region. Free time in this quaint little town. You might choose to browse around the wonderful shops in the beautifully restored 1906 historical James Marks Building – 

Nolan’s Block. Featuring a variety of boutique food and retail offerings including High Country Collective, The Potager, Myrtille bistro, My Little Blueberry bakery and a furniture and homewares store – Stuff Design.

Travel onto Highfields stopping at the Monty Brewing Co, the perfect collaboration – delicious brews plus open dining style restaurant. This brew pub opens to stunning views of the Lockyer Valley, take in the mountain views and wide-open skies as you enjoy a beer or cider tasting of your choice.  The range of authentic craft beers and ciders come in a great variety of makes and flavours (cocktail of your choice is offered as an alternative to a beer or cider tasting paddle). Enjoy a shared grazing platter to complement your tasting paddle.

Depart Highfields mid afternoon for the trip back to the Gold Coast arriving around 5.30-6.00pm.
